Government agencies reserve contracts for small businesses that are certified in SBA’s contracting programs.
The 8(a) Program is to help provide a level playing field for small businesses owned by socially and economically disadvantaged people or entities, the government limits competition for certain contracts to businesses that participate in the 8(a) Business Development program.

Each session is designed to take you through the preparation for and the actual application process. You will receive one-on-one assistance from our SBA Certified Business Opportunist Specialist.
Instructor: Sean Smith
Sean P. Smith has been the U.S. Small Business Administration since December 2010 as a BusinessOpportunities Specialist working with firms participating in the SBA 8A Business Development Program.He was at the San Antonio District Office from 2010 until 2019, then transferred to the DFW Districtoffice to be closer to family. Currently Sean services 8(a) Small Businesses at the Dallas/Ft Worth DistrictOffice. He also assisted with marketing the HUBZone, SDVOSB and the WOSB programs. He holds aFederal Acquisition Certification in Contracting (FAC-C) Level 1. Before coming to the SBA, Sean workedfor the Del Mar College Procurement Technical Assistance Center in Corpus Christi where he wasProgram Manager. Prior to his 10 years with the PTAC, Sean worked for a Service Disabled VeteranOwned Small Business and was the manager for 17 years.
